The South Barrington Park District is moving forward with an exciting, multi-phase

transformation of the five-acre Dunteman Park, located at 3 E. Penny Road. Driven by

community feedback, the project aims to restore vital play spaces and introduce the

District’s first-ever dedicated inclusive and sensory recreation environment.

Phase 1 Kickoff (Fall 2026): Shelter and restroom accessibility renovations will
begin this fall, with the remainder of Phase 1 elements scheduled for completion

In Spring 2027. Phase 1 elements include new pickleball courts, a half basketball court,

a walking path/track, and youth soccer fields.

Phase 2 Expansion (Spring 2027 Implementation): To fund the remainder of Phase 2, the

District has submitted an application for the Open Space Lands Acquisition and

Development (OSLAD) grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources,

requesting $591,100 to match its own locally secured $591,100 in capital and special

recreation funds. Spring Playground Installation: The District is committed to the

installation of the brand-new, highly anticipated inclusive playground element of Phase 2

and will be built in Spring 2027, regardless of the OSLAD grant outcome.

Should the state award the 2027 OSLAD grant, the full Phase 2 scope—including sensory gardens, a butterfly/pollinator habitat, and 8,000 square feet of native prairie restoration—will be implemented in tandem.

Dunteman Park has been without an operational playground since its 40-year-old structures had to be removed due to wear and unavailable parts, "said the SouthBarrington Park District Board of Commissioners." This redevelopment directly answers
our residents calls for modern, all-abilities play spaces. By combining local funding with matching grant opportunities, we are building a vibrant, multi-generational park that serves children with disabilities, families, and seniors alike.
